The Cycle to Work Scheme is a revenue scheme that aims to encourage employees to cycle to and from work. Under the scheme, your employer can purchase the bike and safety equipment for you, and is then deducted from your salary before the tax, over an agreed period of up to 12 months. Employees can save up to 52% of the cost of a new bicycle and safety accessories, depending on their tax brackets. It is up to each employer if they would like to take part in the scheme.

The Cycle to Work Scheme is now available in store in Decathlon Ballymun Dublin. Not to be confused with other available Cycle to Work Schemes.

It is important to check with your employer how they operate the scheme, as Decathlon Ireland currently does not work with any third-party cycle to work initiatives, such as BiketoWork (TravelHub), cyclescheme.ie, and Tax Saver Bicycles.

To avail of a Tax Free Bicycle at Decathlon via our Cycle to Work Scheme, we work directly with the employer and employee. We will issue your employer a ProForma Invoice on your behalf and they will arrange repayments and tax reliefs within your payslips. For more information on the process, keep reading or contact Alison via email using cycletowork.dublin@decathlon.com.

We are also partners of TaxFreeBicycles, which is the only third party we currently accept for Cycle to Work Schemes.

TaxFreeBicycles are also Ireland’s most popular provider of tax free bicycles.

The maximum amount that is covered by the scheme is €1250 for push bikes, and €1500 for electric bikes. Employees can only purchase 1 bike using the scheme every 4 tax years.

Orders under the  Cycle to Work Scheme can only be made on bikes over the price of €300 that are currently stocked in store in Ballymun.

The scheme covers new push bikes and electric bikes, as well as selected safety equipment if purchased with the bike.

The Cycle to Work Scheme exists because the government wants to encourage people to cycle to work for a number of reasons. But we’ve compiled these with some of our top reasons why it would be a god idea to even consider cycling to work.

1. It’s good for you:

Cycling to work, no matter how close or far you might be is a great way to include exercise and cardio into your day. Cycling for just 15-20 minutes a day can boost your heart health, fitness levels and can aid in weight loss goals too.

2. It’s good for the environment:

On a short 14km car journey (7km each way) 5 days a week, emits approximately a tonne in C02 emissions each year.

To counteract the emissions of one tonne of c02, it would be the equivalent of planting 50 trees per year.

3. It might even be faster:

In some cases, particularly in rush hour traffic, cycling is twice as fast as a car in commuter traffic.

If you don’t have a car and are using public transport in Dublin, you most likely will be faster by bike.

4. It’s a great way to start your day:

Regardless of the physical and health benefits, cycling to work boosts your energy and being energised is definitely a great way to start your day.

5. Saves money:

Not only is the incentive of having a tax-free bicycle a reason to avail of this scheme, the one off cost of a bike and accessories then eliminates petrol and parking costs or public transport costs, helping you save money.

At Decathlon Ireland, we can offer the Cycle to Work Scheme in 4 different ways.

1) If your company issues payments by a direct bank transfer to Decathlon

2) If your company issues a cheque to Decathlon

3) If payment is made using a company credit card

4) If your company is signed up with TaxFreeBicycles

It is important to check with your employer how they operate the scheme, as Decathlon currently do not work with any third party cycle to work initiatives that are not mentioned above, such as BiketoWork (TravelHub), cyclescheme.ie, and Tax Saver Bicycles.

We can offer this scheme on any bike that we have in stock in store which costs a minimum of €300. Our full selection can be seen on our website www.decathlon.ie. There is a button below each product saying ‘check our stores’. This will show the stock levels in our Ballymun store.
