Sustainability Mission at Decathlon Ireland
At Decathlon Ireland, our mission is to sustainably make the pleasure and benefit of sport accessible to the many. One of our primary goals for 2021, is to launch our Sustainable Development plan, and in doing this we commit to taking responsibility for our actions and impact on the planet particularly within sports.
One of the best ways to begin to fulfill the mission statement we have created is by working with our community and putting our best foot forward in our attempt to preserve our play grounds for future generations, by helping to decrease waste pollution. With this being said we are delighted to announce that we are participating in World Cleanup Day 2021.
So, What is World Cleanup Day?
World Cleanup Day unites 180 countries, in an effort to clean up our planet, by coming together to reduce waste pollution in their local areas, and pick up litter. It is about positive collaboration, the spirit of unity, and most importantly, getting something done for the planet.
We are taking World Cleanup Day back to Ballymun this year after a successful campaign last year, which was our first year in the Ballymun community. We believe that this simple initiative can help to reduce waste and positively contribute to our local community.
How can I get involved in World Cleanup Day 2021?
This year, we are hosting our own event, as we have done previously, that you can participate in too!
On the 16th of September, at 1pm, Decathlon teammates will be joining together to pick up litter in the surrounding areas of our store in Ballymun.

What if I can't make it?
If you can’t join us, no worries at all, you can create your own event, and get involved as little or as much as you like. We are certain that small actions from individuals can make a significant difference, so let's all be a small part of that change this World Cleanup Day.
Competition!
We will be running the competition until the official World Cleanup Day, the 18th of September, so get picking!
Be sure to tag us in your before, during and after cleanup photos on social media, because we will be incentivising all participants with the possibility to be in with a chance to win a €50 gift card for our store! This means that you can do your bit for your planet, but also reap the reward for doing so!
